
Yinka Edward
Yinka Edward is an award-winning cinematographer whose works include 2017 BAFTA award winning animated movie, A Love Story. Yinka received a Master of Arts degree in Film and Television production with a concentration in Cinematography from the National Film and Television School (NFTS) England. He has built an impressive portfolio of work as a cinematographer with his work screening in film festivals around the world and garnering various awards and nominations.
Yinka brings his passion for the craft of visual storytelling to every project he is on. His dedication to making sure that he captures the essence of a director’s vision on screen is part of what has made his work stand out. Yinka was nominated for Best Postgraduate camerawork at the Royal Television Society Student Television Awards for A Love Story. In the same year, the short film Yinka shot, Ferris and the Fancy Pigeon won the Royal Television Society Student Television Awards for Best Drama.
At the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, three of the movies he shot premiered in the City to City programme. For his work on October 1, ’76 and 93 Days Yinka received nominations for best cinematography at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA). 93 Days also received a Vision Award at the Pan African Film Festival.
The German/Kenyan feature movie, Something Necessary, which Yinka shot in Kenya, screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and was an official selection at the Rotterdam Film Festival 2013. For his work on the Figurine, Yinka received an African Movie Academy Award for best cinematography.
Yinka also has a wealth of experience shooting television series’. After finishing production on the BBC World Service Trust’s series Wetin Dey, he was invited to Namibia to shoot the country’s first indigenous television series The Ties That Bind. He also shot season 4 and part of season 6 of the MTV series, Shuga.
